# Reconnect GitHub to Raff Apps

> Fix Raff apps whose GitHub pushes stopped deploying, after the Raff GitHub app was removed, paused or lost access to a repository.

Updated October 19, 2026

Apps from GitHub deploy every push to their branch. When Raff loses access to the repository, pushes stop deploying and the app shows a banner that says why. The app keeps running its last deploy in the meantime.

## What the banner says

| Banner | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| Raff lost access to GitHub account @name | The Raff GitHub app was removed from that GitHub account | **Reconnect GitHub** |
| Raff cannot find owner/repo on GitHub | The repository was renamed, moved or deleted | If it was renamed or moved, **Reconnect GitHub** |
| The Raff GitHub app is paused on @name | An owner of that GitHub account suspended the app | **Open GitHub settings**, then an owner unsuspends it |
| Raff can no longer see owner/repo | The repository was taken out of the Raff GitHub app's access | **Open GitHub settings** and give the app access to the repository again |

The banner shows on the app page, in **Settings**, **Repository**, and once for all affected apps on the **Apps** list.

## Reconnect GitHub

<Steps>
  <Step title="Click Reconnect GitHub">
    Click **Reconnect GitHub** on the banner. From the **Apps** list, one reconnect repairs every app on that GitHub account.

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in with GitHub">
    A GitHub window opens. Sign in with a GitHub account that can see the app's repository. Raff links only what that GitHub account can see.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install the Raff GitHub app if asked">
    If the Raff GitHub app is no longer installed, GitHub asks you to install it. Pick the account and the repositories your apps use, and finish the install.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check the result">
    The window closes and the dashboard says "GitHub reconnected", with the branch it is deploying. The banner goes away.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If your browser blocks the GitHub window, the sign-in runs in the same tab and brings you back when it is done.

## What happens after

* Each repaired app deploys the latest commit on its branch when that differs from what it runs.
* Apps you paused, and apps paused by the [spend cap](/products/build/raff-apps/quickstart-guides/set-a-spend-cap), are left alone.
* After you give the Raff GitHub app access to a repository again in GitHub settings, its apps deploy their latest commit by themselves.

If an app uses a private repository that your GitHub account cannot see, the reconnect is refused. Ask someone in that GitHub organization who can see the repository to reconnect.

## Do it from your tools

Reconnecting needs the dashboard, because it signs you in to GitHub. API keys cannot start it.

To check an app from the API, read `github_status` from [Get app service](/api-reference/apps/get-app-service). It is empty when the link works, otherwise `disconnected`, `suspended`, `no_repo_access` or `repo_not_found`.

```bash theme={null}
curl "https://api.rafftechnologies.com/api/v1/apps/services/$APP_ID" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $RAFF_API_KEY"
```

`$APP_ID` is the app's ID from [List app services](/api-reference/apps/list-app-services) or `raff apps list`. `$RAFF_API_KEY` is an [API key](/products/manage/team-projects/quickstart-guides/generate-api-key).
