# Delete a Raff Keep server

> Delete a Raff Keep server and its stack, stop an install that is still running, or remove a failed install from your list.

Updated October 15, 2026

Deleting a Raff Keep server destroys the server and its disks and stops its subscription. What the delete button says, and what happens to your money, depends on where the install is.

<Warning>
  Deleting a server cannot be undone. Copy anything you need off the server first, or take a snapshot in **Compute**.
</Warning>

## Before you start

* Permission to delete servers in the project (`vm.delete`).

## Steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the delete action">
    Open the server's page under **Keep**, click the **...** button (**More actions**) next to **Connect**, and choose the delete action. On an installed server it is also on the **Settings** tab, under **Server**: **Delete this server**.

    | The install is | The action says | What happens |
    | - | - | - |
    | **Installed** | **Delete stack and server** | The server and its disks are destroyed, its subscription stops and the stack leaves Keep. |
    | **Creating server**, **Installing** or **Checking** | **Stop install and delete server** | The install stops. Raff removes the server it created and returns everything you paid to your Raff balance. |
    | **Failed**, and Raff is checking it | **Delete server** | The server and its disks are destroyed and its subscription stops. The unused part comes back to your Raff balance. Raff still checks the install and contacts you. |
    | **Failed** or **Awaiting payment**, with no server | **Remove from list** | There is no server to delete. The install leaves your Keep list. |

    </Frame>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    The dialog repeats what happens. Click **Delete**, or **Keep it** to go back.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Verify

The status changes to **Deleting**, then **Deleted** once the server is gone: "The server is gone. This page stays as the record." When you stopped an install, the status is **Removing** until Raff has removed the server and returned your money.

## What happens to your money

* **Delete an installed server**: the unused part of the server's subscription goes back to your Raff balance. The Windows licence for the current period is not returned.
* **Stop an install**: everything you paid for the order goes back to your Raff balance.

See [Billing model](/products/build/raff-keep/concepts/billing-model).

## Delete it from Compute

A Raff Keep server is also listed in **Compute**, and deleting it there works the same way. Reinstall and factory reset are not available for a Raff Keep server: "This server was set up by Raff Keep. Delete it and create it again."
