# Delete a database

> Delete a managed database, what happens to its data, backups and billing.

Updated October 11, 2026

Deleting a database removes it, its data and its standbys at once, and stops billing. Backups are kept for 14 days after the delete, then removed for good.

## Before you start

* Take a final backup or export what you need. After 14 days nothing can be recovered.
* Update the apps that use the database.

## Steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings">
    Open the database, go to **Settings** and scroll to **Delete database**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Click **Delete database**, type the database's name exactly, and click **Delete database** again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can also delete several databases at once: select them in the **Databases** list and click **Delete**.

## What happens

* The database, its data and its addresses are removed at once. Billing stops now.
* **Monthly databases**: the unused part of the month is credited to your account balance.
* **Backups** are kept for 14 days. Within that window, [contact support](mailto:support@rafftechnologies.com) to restore one into a new database.
* The name can be used again at once. The public port is not reused by another database for 7 days.

## Do it from your tools

* **API**: [`DELETE /api/v1/databases/{database_id}`](/api-reference/databases/delete-database)
* **CLI**: [`raff database delete`](/reference/cli/database)
