Updated October 15, 2026 Raff Guardian is a small program Raff installs on your server to look after it. It watches the server every minute and does the work a server needs every day: it blocks attackers, installs updates, restarts what stops and frees disk space. You decide how much it may do on its own, and every change it makes is recorded in Activity with what it was before and after. Raff Guardian is the engine behind Raff Keep: a stack Kept by Raff is a server Raff Guardian looks after. You can also add it to any server you create on Raff. It runs on Windows Server today.

Why it is called Guardian

A server on the internet needs care every day. Bots start guessing its passwords within minutes of it going online, updates arrive every month, services stop and disks fill up. Most people do not log in every day to check. Raff Guardian is named for that job. It stays on the server, watches over it day and night, steps in when something goes wrong and tells you what it did.

How it works

  1. Install it. Run one command from the server’s Guardian tab, or choose it when you create the server. A stack Kept by Raff gets it during the install.
  2. It reports every minute. Security, updates, services, apps, users and disk. It only connects out to Raff over HTTPS and never opens a port on the server.
  3. Raff finds what needs attention. Each problem becomes a finding on the Guardian tab, with what it means and what to do.
  4. It acts as you allow. In Raff manages everything it fixes problems on its own. In Ask me before changes it waits for your OK. In Watch only it only reports.
  5. Only what Raff signed runs. Every action is signed by Raff, and Raff Guardian checks the signature before it runs it. Its own updates are signed and checked the same way.
  6. Everything is recorded. Each finding, change, approval and question is in Activity, and you can export it.

What it does

Security

  • Blocks attackers in seconds. An address that fails to sign in 8 times in 15 minutes is blocked at the server’s own firewall. You choose the number, from 5 to 200. It counts Remote Desktop, and SSH when OpenSSH Server is installed.
  • Keeps you from being locked out. Raff Guardian takes over Windows’ account lockout, so bots guessing passwords block their own address instead of locking your accounts.
  • Limits who can reach Remote Desktop, if you ask, to the addresses you list. The browser console always works.
  • Warns about what you did not add: a new administrator, or a remote access app you did not install.
  • Checks Windows’ defences every hour: the firewall, Microsoft Defender and Remote Desktop settings. It keeps Defender’s definitions current and runs quick scans.

Updates

  • Installs Windows updates in your window. Raff Guardian takes a snapshot first (or uses Raff Backups if the server has them), installs, restarts if needed and checks that the server came back. If it did not, it offers to put the snapshot back. Driver updates are left to you.

Keeping things running

  • Restarts services that stop: Remote Desktop, Windows Update, Microsoft Defender, IIS, SQL Server and up to 40 services you add. Up to 3 restarts a day each, then it asks you.
  • Frees disk space when a drive has less than 15% free.
  • Restarts and shuts down safely, with a countdown you choose, and offers to force it when Windows hangs.
  • Watches a Keep stack’s application on a server Kept by Raff. When a MetaTrader terminal or an IIS site stops, it tells you why and how to start it again.

Knowing your server

  • Lists the apps installed and warns before one reaches its end of support.
  • Answers questions from the dashboard: what uses the CPU, which services run, which ports are open, which folders fill the disk.
  • Shows Windows users and who is signed in. You can set a new password, unlock an account or sign a user out from the dashboard. These run only when you press the button.
  • Activates Windows with Raff’s licence on servers that have one.

What it does not do

  • Run on Linux servers yet. Raff Guardian supports Windows Server today.
  • Run your own scripts or commands. It runs only the actions built into it, signed by Raff.
  • Open a port on your server. It only connects out to Raff.
  • Sign anyone out, unlock an account or change a password on its own. These run only when you press the button.
  • Replace backups. The snapshot it takes before updates is deleted once the server is healthy.
  • Install driver updates.
