Features

Address families

  • IPv4 — standard public IPv4, available in every region. Reserved at $3 / month
  • IPv6 — single public IPv6, available in every region. Reserved at $1 / month (cheaper than IPv4 — IPv6 address space isn’t scarce)
  • Dual-stack supported — a VM can have one IPv4 and one IPv6 simultaneously

Two lifecycles

  • Auto-assigned — free pool IP, returns to pool on detach. Free while attached
  • Reserved — IPv4 $3/month, IPv6 $1/month, persists through VM rebuilds and detaches, movable between VMs
See Auto-assigned vs reserved for the full lifecycle model.

Where they’re managed

  • Networking → Public IPs tab — account-wide list, reserve, auto-assign, attach, detach, release
  • VM detail → Network tab — per-VM view, add/remove IPs, attach Firewall to a specific IP
  • Networking → Diagram — visual map, click the IP chip floating above a VM for Copy IP / Detach actions

Firewall integration

  • Each public IP can have one Firewall attached to filter inbound traffic
  • Attach via the IP card on a VM’s Network tab (Firewall: None / Attach)
  • See Firewall for rule-set creation

Movability (reserved only)

  • Detach from one VM, attach to another in the same region — the address stays the same
  • Standard pattern for blue/green deploys, manual failover, partner-whitelist preservation
  • Auto-assigned IPs are not movable — detach returns them to the pool

Pricing

TypeRate
Auto-assigned IPv4 / IPv6 (attached)Free
Auto-assigned, detachedN/A — auto-assigned IPs are never detached without being released
Reserved IPv4 (attached or unattached)$3.00 / month ($0.0069/hr)
Reserved IPv6 (attached or unattached)$1.00 / month ($0.0023/hr)
Yearly lock-in$36/yr (IPv4) / $12/yr (IPv6)
24-month lock-in$72/2yr (IPv4) / $24/2yr (IPv6)
Additional IPs beyond the dashboard limit (support-only)Same per-IP rate by family — IPv4 $3/mo, IPv6 $1/mo
Gateway IPs (Platform Router, Firewall Appliance WAN)Free with Platform Router; rolled into Firewall Appliance VM price
Yearly and 24-month durations are the same effective per-month price as monthly — they lock the rate (no surprise increases) but offer no volume discount today. For the picker walkthrough, see Reserve a static IP → Billing Period. Reserved IPs accrue continuously whether attached or not. If you delete a reserved IP mid-cycle, the unused days are credited back to your account balance — same prorated-on-delete model as VMs and volumes. See Billing model. There is no charge for outbound traffic on a public IP at the IP layer — you’re billed for VM bandwidth (which is free on Raff today) and for Object Storage public-internet egress when applicable. The IP itself just costs the reservation fee.

Limits

ItemLimit
Public IPv4 per VM (dashboard)1 — one IPv4 from the dashboard
Public IPv6 per VM (dashboard)1 — one IPv6 from the dashboard
Public IPs per VM (with support)More on request — $3/month per additional IP
Reserved IPs per accountNo hard cap published; subject to overall account capacity
Region scopeEach IP is bound to one region — non-portable across regions
IP-type swap on a VMA VM can’t simultaneously hold two IPv4s from the dashboard, or two IPv6s — remove the existing one first
Time to attach/detachSeconds — propagates through cloud-init / DHCP within a few seconds

Regional availability

RegionStatus
US EastAvailable today — both IPv4 and IPv6
Other regionsComing with the rest of the multi-region rollout
The auto-assign pool is per region — you can only auto-assign IPs in regions where the VM lives. Available pool sizes are surfaced as the Available in pool stat at the top of the Public IPs tab; if it’s zero for a region, auto-assign returns an error and you’ll need to either wait for capacity or reserve an IP instead.

What’s not available today

  • Anycast IPs — single IP that’s announced from multiple regions
  • BYOIP / IP import — bringing your own AS-prefixed IP block
  • Floating Virtual IP (VRRP-style) between VMs without a manual detach/attach — the move-IP pattern is the closest equivalent
  • Per-IP tagging or notes — coming with the broader resource-tags rollout
