Updated October 11, 2026 PostgreSQL extensions add features to the database: vector for AI embeddings, pg_trgm for fuzzy search, pg_stat_statements for slow query statistics and many more. Turning one on takes a second and needs no restart.

Before you start

  • A running PostgreSQL database.

Steps

1

Open Extensions

Open the database, go to Settings and find Extensions. It shows how many are on.
2

Find the extension

The most used ones are at the top: vector, pg_trgm, pg_stat_statements, hstore, uuid-ossp, citext, ltree, pgcrypto, unaccent. Use Search or Show all for the rest.
3

Tick it

Tick the checkbox. The extension is installed in defaultdb with anything it depends on. Untick to remove it.
vector and pg_trgm can also be ticked when you create the database, so they are ready the moment it starts.

Common extensions

Extensions that can reach the server’s files or run untrusted languages are not offered. PostGIS is not available yet.

Do it from your tools

Next steps

Monitor a database

See slow queries once pg_stat_statements is on.
